3 Things You Can Do To Make Your Passing Easier For Your Loved Ones

MakeItEasy

The days and weeks after a death tend to be chaotic, uncertain, and confusing. But, there are a number of things you can do, to make your passing easier for your loved ones.

Going over three of the most useful things you can do to make your passing easier for your loved ones, and speaking with a Florida estate planning lawyer today will make it easier for your estate planning goals to be met.

01: Outline Your Funeral Plans

If you have outlined your funeral plans – including selecting a person to enact these plans – it will be much easier for your funeral to proceed.

On the other hand, if your funeral plans have not been outlined, your loved ones will have to do this. And, this could be very complicated, especially if they aren’t sure what you would have liked your plans to be.

You can avoid this by working with a lawyer to produce documentation for your funeral plans. This will let you outline your funeral plans and select a person to enact these funeral plans.

02: Secure Your Property

If you have property you want to give your beneficiaries, you should do your best to secure all of this property. By doing so, you can prevent thieves, including entitled family members or friends, from stealing it.

Just as an example, it is not uncommon for criminals to check obituaries and other, related, reports of death. Doing so can allow them to find unsecured homes that they burgle.

If you secure your property, you can protect it. This will allow your beneficiaries to receive the property you wish to give them, without them having to worry that some of it has been misappropriated.

03: Set Up A Trust That Bypasses Probate

If you have a will, then your assets will, in most cases, go through probate. This means that some of your assets will be diluted, in order to pay for probate. It also means that your assets could take a while to go to your beneficiaries.

You can set up a trust that bypasses probate. By doing so, your beneficiaries will receive your assets as soon as possible, while also receiving the full value of those assets.

A good example of the above is as follows: you set up a trust that includes your car, cash, and furniture. And, when you pass away, all of this stuff goes to your beneficiaries, immediately afterwards. They don’t have to wait.

On the other hand, if you don’t set up a trust, it could take nearly a year for them to receive these assets. They may not receive all of them, either, due to the fees associated with probate.
